Ideal Academy is a public charter school with a population of 480 students ranging in age from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. For their new home, Shinberg.Levinas converted a 37,000 square foot warehouse/office space into lively, open school.
Work was primarily interior, utilizing the existing brick façade and structure. A large central space provides a focal point for school identification and gathering space for students outside of the classroom setting; numerous skylights in this space allow natural light to penetrate to the core of the building. Classrooms are located along the perimeter of the building to take advantage of daylighting and allow access to fresh air through operable windows.
