Burling Court
The owners of this 50-year-old Colonial house came to us with a unique goal: to modernize and expand the entranceway in a manner that both respects the home's traditional design and complements an existing addition, a multipurpose area.
To accomplish this, we created a new entranceway that ties the old to the new—the original Colonial structure to a new vertical canopy overhang, made of mahogany, sculpture-like in form. The result is a dramatic yet harmonious entrance, along with a much larger dining room.

Bethany Beach
A new house in a resort community, this year-round home was limited by restrictions involving materials, roof slopes, setbacks, and by a very tight budget. Additionally, the owners, a retired couple, wanted comfortable yet separate spaces for themselves and their guests.
Our solution takes the form of a dynamic floor plan that creates a unified interior volume, featuring first-floor living for the owners and two separate bedrooms upstairs for grandchildren and guests.
To further make the most of the house and its lot, we "brought the outdoors in" by giving the house a unique shape: two rectangles that, as if swiveled, create a triangle of space between them. Largely glass-enclosed, the triangle contains a garden that seems to come into the house.

Chicago Botanical Gardens
Our contribution to this major landscaping project on the Evening Island site, was the creation of two pavilions—a comfort station and a maintenance facility—that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding gardens. Above all, the facilities are designed to be functional yet inconspicuous, so as not to detract from the gardens themselves.
Working closely with Oehme van Sweden, the internationally known landscape design firm, we developed a concept that ensconces the simple brick pavilions behind curved garden walls that follow the shape of the walking paths. Characterized by alternating layers that mimic the landscape, the brick walls support areas of vine-covered trellises that heighten the organic effect.

B'nai Shalom of Olney
This 20,000 square-foot addition and renovation aims to expand the synagogue's established school and administrative areas, expand and reconfigure its main worship space, and expand the social hall in order to accommodate larger events such as weddings and bar mitzvahs.
By working closely with the client, we are producing a much more unified, efficient and expressive architectural solution while keeping within a tight budget.
Shinberg.Levinas is also creating a new wing to serve as the nursery in the mornings and the religious school in the afternoons.

Ezras Israel Synagogue
This small Orthodox congregation wanted to develop a new sanctuary in a building that is approximately 50 years old. Without disrupting the existing facility, we are creating a simple yet distinctive place of worship that is deeply spiritual inside and offers a strong sense of identity to the busy street on which it sits.

Lubavich Center
Image In this project, Shinberg.Levinas transformed a residential structure into a worship and education center for a small organization. Working within a tight budget, we created a design that uses modest yet durable materials.
To achieve visual interest changing the nature of the building, we created interesting patterns of shadows. This makes the building distinctive and less residential without diminishing its integration into the residential neighborhood surrounding it.

The Yeshiva High School for Girls
Image This school will be situated on a site currently occupied by a smaller school building that will be demolished. The new building, comprising 40,000 square feet, will feature standard school facilities such as a cafeteria and media center. Prefabricated elements will foster speed, economy and durability, for low long-term maintenance costs.
In addition, the project requires extensive site-planning services including the full range of county reviews, such as storm-water management, fire-fighting access and tree conservation.
