This mixed-use project converted a wonderful and historic row house in Washington's Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood into spaces for a nonprofit religious organization, including worship and study, and a residence for its director's family.
To resolve major zoning issues, Shinberg.Levinas first had to show how the building would accommodate mixed-use facilities without unduly constraining functional goals or resale potential. To resolve code issues, we negotiated solutions for the unique issues of this building and use with city officials, created a separate staircase for each use and integrated new systems subtly and seamlessly into the design of this 9,400 square-foot building (office and residential).
"Working with Milton Shinberg and Salo Levinas is certainly advantageous for any project, especially if it's your first one. Their boundless patience, creativity, attention to detail and thorough knowledge of complex zoning and code issues can simply make an initial 'impossible' project ultimately successful."
Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Director, Washington Office, Friends of Lubavitch
