This 20,000 square-foot addition and renovation aims to expand the synagogue's established school and administrative areas, expand and reconfigure its main worship space, and expand the social hall in order to accommodate larger events such as weddings and bar mitzvahs.
By working closely with the client, we are producing a much more unified, efficient and expressive architectural solution while keeping within a tight budget. Partitions, for instance, make it simple to reconfigure space for larger or smaller events; the sanctuary can be intimate enough for a gathering of 200 people, or expansive enough to accommodate 700.
Shinberg.Levinas is creating a new wing to serve as the nursery in the mornings and the religious school in the afternoons. The wing has its own entrance and identity, with a direct relationship to the outdoors, yet blends harmoniously with the rest of the synagogue. The classrooms also have built-in flexibility to accommodate classes of all sizes.
Finally, to foster a strong sense of community, the front open space and parking flow smoothly into a path, from outside to inside, on which all congregants walk together to the sanctuary.
"They have worked closely with our committee to help us focus on our needs and to present solutions that have not only impressed the committee but have inspired the congregation."
Todd Gardner, Trustee and Chairman, Land & Building Committee
