Situated in a historic district of Washington, D.C., the Consulate resides in a 19th century row house restricted by various codes and regulations. Our challenge was to completely renovate the interior in a way that comfortably accommodates a large daily flow of people while maintaining the timeless character of the building.
By respecting the building's historic elements and working closely with the Fine Arts Commission, we opened up the interior in a way that maximizes flexibility. The public rooms, for instance, can easily serve dual purposes: as a consulate for the public during the daytime, and as a gallery for more formal events during the evening.
